Riptide Contemporary Youth Performance Group Artistic Director 2011 – 2014
Set artistic direction for Riptide Contemporary Youth Performance Group.
Secure a range of skills development and performance opportunities from
leading, high profile national artists & companies including: Danielle Micich, Shaun Parker, Australian Dance Theatre, Suzie Miller, Sarah Giles, Sally Richardson & Brenda Murphy.
Identify, prepare and manage project concepts, budgets and contracts for company activities.
Engage in strategic discussions regarding audience development, the centre’s youth ambassador scheme and the role of Riptide within these contexts.
Deliver company workshops & performance projects as required.
Provide choreographic mentorship as required.
Liaise with Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (MPAC) marketing team to
support project promotion and participant recruitment.
Draft all funding applications (funding secured from DCA, CANWA, Country
ArtsWA & Australia Council for the arts).
Ensure compliance with all funding and sponsorship agreements.
Draft all funding acquittals and project reports.
Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds UK) Dance Development Officer 2009
Co-ordinate the international tour for the postgraduate performance company, Verve 2009 including travel/accommodation requirements and venue liaison.
Assist the university’s director and Verve company rehearsal director with the day-to-day management of the honours program.
Progress the school’s dance initiatives within the university and wider community engagements.
Assist in research and drafting of viability/strategic reports and funding applications as required.
Successfully secured venue agreements for a full international touring schedule for Verve 2010 that included 21 small to medium size theatres. (Choreographic works presented by Laïla Diallo, Luis Lara Malvacías, Michael Schumacher, Kathinka Walter, David Zambrano).
Coordinated strategic discussions and research into the viability for the remounting of a professional performance season programmed into the university’s Riley Theatre. Managed research into current touring works and assisted in the curating of the professional program. Presenting companies included ACE dance and music, Tilted Productions, Retina Dance Company, Melanie Demers and Laila Dialo, Pheonix Dance Theatre, Collin Poole and Company Chameleon.
City of Mandurah Stretch Festival Artistic Program Consultant 2007 & 2008
Identified potential artists and arts workers within the local area and negotiated creative projects for development.
Engaged new sponsorship opportunities and drafted funding applications to state and federal departments.
Managed the re-branding and development of the festival marketing strategy resulting in a 60% increase in attendance.
Liaised with the City’s arts & cultural development officers and events management team to design and implement an annual four day arts and cultural festival.
Curated and supported a diverse range of visual arts and performance projects presented as part of the festival.
Mentored artists, community workers and participants to ensure projects were successfully achieved on time and within budget.
Programmed activities and entertainment over the festival weekend.
Budget management ($150k) including allocating and distributing funds to cover infrastructure, audio visual equipment, artist fees, security, entertainment and catering cost.
Submitted budget reports and updates to the City’s Community Services CEO & Director.
Ensured compliance with all funding and sponsorship agreements.
Post event analysis and reporting; including completion of grant acquittals
and financial reports.

Production Value: $37k 16 x young performers / 5 x professional artistic team / 2 x production team. Aim: Creative Production and movement mentorship as part of a collaborative team to create a new work made by and for Mandurah’s young people.
Sound may be the last sense to leave us (2012) Creative Director & Producer Production Value $48k 30 x community performers / 12 x professional artistic team / 3 x professional dancers / full production team. Aim: To produce a large- scale community dance work communicate the fragility of the historic thromoblites at Lake Clifton in the South West of Australia and explores the community’s connection to and concern for this historical local landscape.
Shiver Curtain Raiser Performance (2012) Collaborating Choreographer Production Value: $39k 15 x young performers / 5 x professional artistic team / full production team. Aim: Create an original short work in collaboration with Danielle Micich to present as a curtain raiser performance for Shiver’s Mandurah’s tour date as part of Performing Lines, DCA & Circuit West’s pilot touring model.

Helen is an intuitive creative who places the audiences understanding of and engagement with performance work as the number one priority informed and supported by strong contemporary arts practice. She is interested in producing work that reflects contemporary society; artistically driven by a determination to mirror the people we are today; our cultural social affairs and how we exist on a day to day basis. In doing so she reveals an appreciation for a spectrum of modern human behaviour and tendencies including its beauty, its vulgarity, it’s wisdom, its stupidity and its simplicity.
